Last week McKenzie Street residents were up in arms over a series of parties in Coronation Park – the last one  that went on until 10pm on Sunday – and the next session has appeared to have started this afternoon.

Residents have complained that at least one of the young people there is in school uniform with other members of the party openly drinking in public even though there are signs warning against drinking of alcohol in the park and making excessive noise.

The parties usually leave behind heaps of litter in spite of the presence of several large refuse bins.

Residents claim that calls to the police complaining about a public disturbance fall on deaf ears with the usual response being ‘they have a right to enjoy themselves’.

Residents claim that the parties destroy the aesthetics of the neighbourhood and the accompanying noise and litter have resulted in the closure of b and bs in the area. Comment is to be gleaned from the municipality as to how and who (which organ of state) implements by-laws.
