Thabang Enoch Mothlaung (34 at the time) was jailed for ten years when he was convicted for the rape of a teenager in 2012. Mothlaung appeared in the Nquthu Regional Court on March 8 where the particulars of his attack and rape of a 16-year-old girl on October 28, 2012, were detailed.

The girl was accosted and raped on her way home at 6:30pm in the Telezini area, Nquthu.
While walking along a footpath in an open field, the man confronted her, asking her name and demanding that he kiss her. With no one else in sight, she realised she was in trouble and quickly dialled her grandmother’s number to ask for help but the perpetrator grabbed her phone.

The grandmother only heard her granddaughter’s screams before the phone was grabbed from her. The granny alerted the girls’ older sister who immediately left the house to look for her sister.
Meanwhile, the attacker threatened to ‘shock and stab’ the teenager if she did not comply with his demands. While trying to block his attempts, she was overpowered.
He forced her to the ground and raped her. After the ordeal, she played along pretending to want to visit him the next day and stating that she needed his number. He gave her his number and gave himself a missed call, allowing her to finally leave. She ran home to her grandmother who told her sister to come back home. They took the victim to the hospital for treatment while the police were called.
