A warning has now been issued that if a company is caught throwing discarded chicken cut-offs down the drain, they will be fined
An uThukela employee paid a visit to the Ladysmith Gazette on Friday after numerous complaints about an overflowing drain at the Game / Kingsgate shopping centre.
The uThukela worker explained that when a previous complaint came in about the blocked drain, they went out and replaced one of the pipes. Then they had to go back a second time to unblock the drain.
The man said this is because fast food outlets that deal with chicken throw the skin and fat down the drain. These companies have been warned not to do this, but they continue to do it nevertheless, which results in drains getting blocked. This in turn forces dirty water to push up through manholes.
