Start getting ready for gun-run

Registration to participate in the Community Gun-Run is now open

The municipality will be hosting the sixth annual Battlefields Festival from June 6 to 11.

The aim of the festival is to increase awareness of Ladysmith’s rich historical and cultural heritage, and its other tourism attractions.

The festival will also provide a platform to regenerate local economic development; empower township and rural communities, crafters and bead workers through promotion of African arts and crafts; and provide a boost for local tourism establishments.

Various events will be hosted during the festival, namely: Community and International Gun-Run, Ladysmith Triathlon, Fine Arts Evening, Battlefields Horse Polo and Fashion Show, Multicultural Exhibition and Traditional Cuisine, Battlefields Tours, Film and Theatre Production.

Registration to participate in the Community Gun-Run is now open. Teams consisting of 11 members are invited to register for participation in the trials that will be held on May 21 in Colenso. Transport will be provided to the participating teams.

There is also individual participation in the first-ever Ladysmith Triathlon. The triathlon will consist of hiking, cycling and running.  Local visual and performing artists are also requested to register (registration is compulsory).

Community members are encouraged to participate in these events which will not only market and attract visitors to Ladysmith, but are also aimed at generating sustained social cohesion.

For more information or to obtain registration forms, kindly visit the Siege Museum (next to the Town Hall) or contact Ms Thobeka Nkosi on 036-637-2992, email: tinkosi@ladysmith.co.za.
