Jolette Malan joined the Newcastle Senior Primary School staff room in 1993.
Her husband, Mossie Malan, was the principal at the time, making her ‘home boss’ her ‘work boss’ too.
Before moving to Newcastle, Mrs Malan was a well-respected teacher Ermelo High School, Eshowe Primary School, Nuwe Republiek Skool and Nardini Convent in Vryheid.
Tannie Malan, as she is affectionately known, laid down the law in the classroom, but had a heart of gold. She cared for her pupils, and treated them like family.
With a passion for education, and an immense love of children, Mrs Malan shaped the minds of thousands of pupils during her 40-year career.
In the face of adversity, colleagues often sought her advice, looking for a shoulder to cry on. Her faith and words of wisdom were comforting, inspiring a newfound sense of strength to tackle the day.
Mr and Mrs Malan plan to start a new chapter in their lives by retiring at an eco-estate near Hartbeespoort Dam. With their children and grandchildren close by, the pair looks forward to spending quality time with their family.
“Tannie Malan, NSPS salutes you, and wishes you many healthy and happy years enjoying your well-earned rest.”
Farewell Mrs Malan!
