After heavy rains, the manholes in Capricorn Crescent erupt causing it to flow down the road and collect at the bridge in close proximity to Estcourt Primary School.

Learners, educators and parents who walk the road of Capricorn Crescent in Colita bear the brunt of this nauseating stench and muck and say they have had enough.

Passing vehicles cause this sewage to splash onto passing pedestrians.Recently the school had to send learners home to change their uniform.

The school has also received complaints from drivers who transport students to and from school and have to drive through the smelly waste.

All this waste, which consists of murky muddy water, litter and human faeces collect on the railings and sidewalks.

This unsightly and disgusting scene is considered a health hazard. Locals agree that the nauseating scene needs drastic attention and not just a temporary fix.

Following some of the complaints made, municipal employees were seen scraping the surface of the bridge clean but not addressing the root of the issue.

The school has written numerous letters to Uthukela District Municipality complaining about the overflowing sewage.

The school had requested that the piping be replaced to prevent re-occurrence. Workers are sent out to repair the immediate damage and after a heavy rain the manholes overflow again.

The management of Estcourt Primary School feel that even after regularly paying their water account the problems facing its role players are being neglected.
