“We have not been told anything about what is holding things up now and this is very agitating as many of us wanted the municipality to do this and get it over with. Dragging it out before it has even started makes us sceptical about how the actual project will go and the glitches that will be met along the way,” said one storeowner.
According to Geoff Silk, of Geoff Silk Civil & Mining Consultant cc said that although he could not confirm whether this was still the issue, the last time he had spoken to Sizwe Khumalo of Thembalethu Civils, the contractor had a minor issue with a company that was supposed to supply them with the roadmilling machine that they would use to strip the tar.
‘The original supplier pulled out at the last minute and as the machines are rare and in very high demand, they had to look for another and this was taking some time,” Mr Silk said.
Attempts to get comment or confirmations from Thembalethu’s Sizwe Khumalo were futile.
