The joke was on anglers
Now that it has been discovered that the fishing competency tests for anglers and a new surcharge of R200 per rod were all figments of the Courier's imagination
Drought or no drought the passionate fishermen are still out there fishing.
Now that it has been discovered that the fishing competency tests for anglers and a new surcharge of R200 per rod were all figments of the Courier’s imagination and that Environmental spokesman, Bill Baite, has gone back to his cage on Beaconsfield Street, the fishermen (and women) were soon back next to the rivers and dams in the area.
Angler, Chris Hatting, last week hooked an impressive looking 3kg carp at Tayside while fellow angler, Dudley Fleischman, has been having great bass catches – as he obviously knows where to look.
Last week’s article on page 3, headed Angling competency tests will leave fishermen fuming, had several irate anglers reaching for their telephone to complain to the Courier and to demand contact details for Department of Environmental Affairs, Bill Baite, who was quoted in the article.
“I am already spending a fortune for firearm competency tests and now this… let me have a word with that guy.” fumed Ajay Singh, who when told to look at the dateline on the page on which the article was printed, burst out laughing.
“Okay guys, you got us…. but gee, we all believed you – we did not even think of it being a April Fool joke,” he chuckled.
