Marimba band takes music festival by storm
The pupils took the opportunity to attend a brass quartet and a piano duet performance.
In the holidays, 17 Hamilton pupils, making up the top string of the Marimba Band, performed at the renowned Wakkerstroom Music Festival.
Their ensemble, which they had been rehearsing since the middle of last year, included ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’, ‘Chariots of Fire’ and ‘YMCA’, as well as an Afrikaans medley and a few pieces composed specifically for the marimbas.
This is the first time children have appeared on the bill and they were very well received.
