#SmartID: Click here to apply online!

The Department of Home Affairs has made it quick and easy for you to get the new Smart ID card.

Newcastillians can now apply for their passports and Smart ID card without having to stand in line.

The Department of Home Affairs has officially launched the pilot programme of its eHomeAffairs system.

This means South African citizens, aged 30-35, can now apply for their passport or Smart ID card online.

Home Affairs initially announced what it referred to as its e-Channel portal in 2015 and ran the preliminary system with banks.

The system allows citizens to submit their applications for the Smart ID and passport, upload supporting documents, pay application fees, and plan branch visits in the comfort of their homes and cutting long wait at the department.

After your application is submitted, a quick visit to a Home Affairs or supported bank branch is needed to have your fingerprints and photograph taken.

After this is done, DoHA will then send you a text message when your smart ID or passport is ready for collection.

Home Affairs assured it would be opening its eHomeAffairs service to more citizens soon.
