Water restrictions are ‘almost’ back in full force

18% of the town's water needs comes from the Klip River - when it runs dry, Spioenkop alone cannot supply us with water

While we have had a brief respite from the drought-based restrictions we had before, poor rains received in the Ladysmith catchment area has left the water levels in the Klip River once again perilously low.

uThukela District Municipality have warned that they may need to reintroduce their planned water cuts schedule which will affect the following areas: Ladysmith CBD, Observation Hill, Umkhamba Gardens, Model Kloof, Limit Hill, Danskraal Industrial, parts of St Chad’s and parts of Steadville.

All of these areas rely on the Klip River and Spioenkop for their water.

18% of the town’s water needs come from the Klip River. When it runs dry, Spioenkop alone cannot supply us with water.

Water cuts will be implemented if needed, as follows: from 8am to 4pm and from 8pm to 4am daily (times are subject to change). Water tankers will be sent to affected areas.

The town currently still has about three days of normal water supply. An appeal has been made for residents to use water sparingly. How badly the drought affects Ladysmith depends on the actions of townsfolk, now!
