Thieves broke into Eventide in the early hours of March 27. A staff member did her rounds at 1.30 am and found everything in order. However, when a resident woke up at 3 am she found that her bedroom window had been opened and the ornaments on the cupboard had been tampered with. Upon further investigation she noticed that a wallet, containing R400, was missing.

“The nurse on duty called the Dundee SAPS from 3 am until 5 am before the telephone was answered,” said Karen Glasgow, SAVF manager. The police were called but never showed up. The police were called again at 8 am and Eventide management were asked if ‘they had their own security’.

It was only after a complaint was laid that police finally arrived on the Wednesday, March 30. However, management still want the police top brass to visit and explain why there was such a delay. There was also a concern that incorrect information regarding the break-in had been originally passed on to the Courier.
