UPDATE: Police seek two suspects for couple assault

Items that were taken from the home include a shotgun, jewellery, cellphones, clothing, and an undisclosed amount of cash

The close-knit small community of Nottingham Road has been shaken by the news of an assault on an elderly couple.

Speculation is rife that a 76-year old man and his 70-year-old wife have become the latest victims in one of the country’s most brutal crimes – farm attacks.

The man and his wife were reportedly preparing to go to sleep at about 10.30pm when they were confronted by intruders in their bedroom.

“Two armed unknown suspects threatened them and demanded cash. They tied up the victims and ransacked the house before fleeing,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Nqobile Gwala.

Items that were taken from the home include a shotgun, jewellery, cellphones, clothing, and an undisclosed amount of cash. An Isuzu bakkie was also stolen from the scene.

The couple was treated for injuries they sustained to their heads and wrists. Nottingham Road police are investigating a case of house robbery. No arrests have been made yet.
