Water disruption as urgent repairs carried out to leaking dam
'The estimated time for the system to recharge is difficult to say at this stage as it is a steel pipe that is in a bad state due to corrosion'

Nquthu residents have been warned that the Vant’s Drift Water Treatment Plant was shut down this morning to drain the rising main to Nquthu to carry out urgent repairs on a serious leak in Hlati Dam that is wasting too much water and causing low reservoir levels.
Umzinyathi District Municipality said in a statement this morning:
“We will started at 6am to drain the line in order to start repairs. The estimated time for the system to recharge is difficult to say at this stage as it is a steel pipe that is in a bad state due to corrosion. We can only see the exact extent of repairs required once the line is isolated and drained.”
