The one-way bridge in Peacevale has become the latest hotspot for criminals intent on robbing motorists.
A young man – who preferred not to be identified – suffered a badly cracked ankle and other injuries when he was dragged out of his vehicle and beaten up by four men.
The motorist said he was at the stop street at about 9pm on Wednesday evening on his way home after visiting friends on Ayob Street.
“These guys seemed to spring out of the long grass near the bridge. There were two Indians guys – one with several tattoos – and two black guys. They pulled me out of the window while holding a large knife to my throat and jumped on him. The other two  went through my car and took about R40 in cash.”
He believes if it were not for two pedestrians – one armed with a stick – who came to his rescue, he would have probably been hijacked of his VW Golf.
“The men chased away the attackers. As I could not drive, they were kind enough to take me to hospital where I was very grateful for the care I received there. The two Good Samaritans then made sure I made it home to Willson Street.”
The incident was reported and residents are urged to take care when approaching the one-way bridge – especially after dark.
