Bakkie engulfed in flames

It is unclear what caused the vehicle to catch fire

A bakkie travelling on the R103 caught fire just after the first Colenso turn-off last night (Monday).

It is believed that the driver was alone in the vehicle at the time. There was, however, a dog (or dogs) on the back of the bakkie, along with various goods.

A resident claims they heard a loud bang and rushed to see what happened.

It is unclear what caused the vehicle to catch fire.

No injuries were sustained and the dog(s) was taken off the bakkie, also unharmed.

Fire and emergency services managed to tame the flames. Initially battling the fire alone, Mr de Jager says it took about 600 litres of water to extinguish the fire.

RTI were on scene and regulated traffic, as one lane was closed.
