Young burglars nabbed at bus rank
Both suspects, aged 16 and 20, were subsequently arrested for burglary and theft.
Two young adults were arrested at the Newcastle bus and taxi rank last week.
According to police, officers from the Crime Prevention Unit were patrolling the area, when they noticed the youngsters carrying a white box.
“The police stopped and approached them. One suspect was searched and dagga was found in his possession,” read a statement issued by Newcastle SAPS.
Officer searched the box, and found a black computer screen and a keyboard.
The suspects claimed they found the items at the Newcastle Golf Club, and were planning to sell them in town.
Police continued questioning the young men, who revealed the actual location of the scene of the crime. The goods were allegedly stolen from a home in Victoria Street.
Both suspects, aged 16 and 20, were subsequently arrested for burglary and theft.
They made their first appearance before a local court on April 19. The outcome of the proceedings were yet to be disclosed at the time of publication.
The incident will remain the subject of police investigations.
