An armed and thieving duo is targeting locals. Three separate cases of armed robbery were reported on Saturday, April 16.

Police suspect that two men, spotted driving a white Toyota Fortuner, are feigning being lost to rob and hurt people. During the first incident a man was walking along the R103 when the vehicle stopped alongside him and the occupants queried about directions to Forderville.

“Since the man was going in the same direction, he offered to go in the vehicle with them and show them the area,” explained police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.

The man’s good intentions were soon regretted.

“While in the vehicle he was throttled and robbed by a suspect armed with a firearm. The victim was left on the side of the road after the suspects stole his cash and cell phone,” said Captain Struwig.

The pair struck again later that evening in Frere. A vehicle similar to the one described earlier stopped to approach a man while he was closing his gate.

The driver struck up conversation with the man, allegedly asking him directions to a certain homestead.  Within seconds the driver produced a firearm and held the man up at gunpoint.

A second occupant from the vehicle then stabbed the man.

“His cell phone and cash were stolen,” said the Captain.

In Forderville a short while later a female pedestrian was targeted by occupants in a similar vehicle. The occupants offered her a lift and when she declined, a firearm was pointed at her and she was robbed of her cell phone and cash.

Police suspect that these three cases are linked.

“In the interest of your safety, police request the community to be aware of these incidents. Whenever possible, walk in groups and be very wary of anyone stopping alongside the road to ask for directions,” advised Captain Struwig.
