Melusi Youth Conference bring hundreds of young people together

Melusi Director, Peter Hambidge, believes that "if God can change a heart, this will change a life and by that you will change a community

After 32 years of ministry among the poor and needy in the Dundee area, Melusi Christian Community (MYC) recently held their first Youth Conference from Thursday through to Saturday. With a desire to “Serve Christ and serve others”, the team at Melusi themed their conference “King of Hearts”.

Each day, the Melusi grounds were inundated with between 250 – 300 youngsters from Dundee and Glencoe. Guests included Pastor Mlambo from Glencoe and guest speaker Pastor Steve Morrison from Bendigo, Australia.
Conference organisers arranged everything from transport to lunch, to afternoon tea for the young people, with a heart to simply love each and every young person that came through their gates.
A highlight of the three days was hearing from former Dundee Hospital nurse, Bonginkosi Khulu, who joined the Melusi team in February and ex-Amajuba College student, Ayanda Mdlalose. They spoke about their own journey with God and how Jesus became the King of their heart. “I enjoyed Ayanda’s message very much. She was very brave to share her story” said Marg Truscott who travelled from Australia for the conference.

Melusi Director, Peter Hambidge, believes that “if God can change a heart, this will change a life and by that you will change a community”. That is the belief of every MYC volunteer, including Melusi Pastor, Stephan Barthel who recounted his experience of the few days as “life changing for not only the hundreds of youngsters who attended, but also for those who volunteered”.
The conference offered a variety of programmes, including talent shows and drawing competitions, which the young people lapped up.
“They loved it! And to see the talent of these young people was truly amazing,” commented Daniel van de Vlaag from the Melusi team.
“Melusi thanks the Dundee community for their tremendous support, including many private business men and woman who provided financial assistance, as well as Orange Grove for their donations, Dundee High School and Uelzen Primary School by providing their buses used for transport,” said Pastor Stephan.
