Umzinyathi district produces Danone Nations Cup winner
There was plenty of on-field passion and determination when the Umzinyathi District elimination rounds of the Provincial Danone Nations Football tournament were recently held at the Nquthu stadium.

The winners will go on to carry the hopes of the area at the Provincial Championships of the Danone Nations Cup, later in May, when the provinces’ 12 winners will be battling it out for the top honours.
In the words of the convenor for Umzinyathi District, SASFA’s ,Musa Khulu, the five schools displayed great football skills and showed signs of improvement in terms of control, co-ordination and mental strength by the players.
He also expressed gratitude to the parents and the community who supported the players during the games. “The spirit and culture of vibrant schools sport is back. It takes a village to raise a child and we are thankful to all those that came in support of our endeavours to develop holistically a complete human being through the education of sport, Danone Nations Cup,” said Mr Khulu.
At the end of the day Ithaka Primary School walked away with the trophy and booked themselves a space on the bus to Durban after battling a tough match against Ethangeni Primary. The full time score was all level at nil – nil and penalties separated the novices from aspirant champs. They won the shoot-out two nil.
The full results were as follows: Ethangeni 2 – 0 Wolwane, Ithaka 0 – 0 Dundee Junior, Mabulukwane 0 – 0 Wolwane, Dundee Junior 0 – 4 Mzweni, Ethangeni 0 –0 Mabululwane and Ithaka 2 – 0 Mzweni. Finals: Ithaka 0 [2] vs 0 [0] Ethangeni.
