ATM bombed in Ekuvukeni

At this stage, it is unknown how much money the criminals got away with

A group of heavily-armed men bombed an ATM facility near the post office in Ekuvukeni in the early hours of this morning (Sunday).

The incident is believed to have occurred at around 1am. The group, equipped with the right explosives, was successful in blowing up the ATM.

There have been four previous bombing attempts at this ATM.

The previous attempts also occurred at month-end. ATM bombers choose this time because ATMs are loaded with cash, said a police official (who would like to remain anonymous).

At this stage, it is unknown how much money the group got away with.

Major Shooz Magudulela (KwaZulu-Natal: Media Centre Corporate Communication) confirmed that a case of malicious damage to property was opened at Ekuvukeni police station after an ATM at the post office was bombed this morning at about 1.20am.

He further commented that an undisclosed amount of cash was taken and that no arrests have yet been made.

The case is under investigation and a massive manhunt has been launched for the bombers.
