Coffins burn in attempt to rid youth of ‘demon thoughts’
Church leaders said the coffin burning was symbolic of burying all social ills affecting young people

A youth group in the Dannhauser/Newcastle area has taken radical action in a bid to warn youngsters from dabbling in the occult.
The Catholic Youth for Christ (CYC) have urged their youth to write down anything, which they might regard as demonic, and place the papers in a ‘home-made’ coffin, which is then burnt. This was done at the Newcastle Deanery at a youth meeting themed, ‘Shapa the demon’, held at the St Francis Church.
Church leaders said the coffin burning was symbolic of burying all social ills affecting young people. Guest speaker, Siyabonga Sikhosana, urged young people not to get ‘involved in wrong-doing that will have an ill-effect on society’.
