Fleeing suspect arrested for stolen diesel

A search of the suspect and vehicle turned up an unlicensed pistol, 16 rounds of ammunition and 12 containers of diesel

A suspect was arrested by Ladysmith SAPS and Ladysmith TRT on Monday after police received information about the theft of diesel from a truck.

Police headed out to the N11 near Driefontein and on arrival, they found a vehicle alongside the road. When the driver spotted the officers, he sped off.

Police gave chase and along the D45 road, they stopped the vehicle and the suspect was arrested.

A search of the suspect and vehicle turned up an unlicensed 9mm Vektor pistol, 16 rounds of ammunition and 12 50-litre containers of diesel.

The 41-year-old suspect appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Tuesday) on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as possession of suspected stolen property.
