Weekend operations lead to the arrest of 10 suspects
Altogether, 10 suspects were arrested and charged for various crimes, such as, murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, dealing in drugs, possession of dagga, possession of drugs, theft of motor vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearms.
Police operations were conducted around KwaZulu-Natal KwaZulu-Natal by Crime Intelligence, the Provincial Task Team, the National Intervention Unit and the Umhlali K9 unit from 28 April to the early hours of 3 May 2016.
The aim was to arrest wanted criminals, seize unlicensed firearms and root out drug trade in the province. Operations were conducted in most areas around KwaZulu-Natal, including Umlazi, Umbumbulu, KwaDabeka, Inanda, Newcastle and Madadeni.
Altogether, 10 suspects were arrested and charged for various crimes, such as, murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, dealing in drugs, possession of dagga, possession of drugs, theft of motor vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearms.
Eleven firearms were recovered and seized. These firearms included five pistols, two AK47s, two .303 rifles and two shotguns.
Along with the firearms, police also recovered a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was stolen in Gauteng.
All suspects appeared in various courts around the province on May 4.
Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni from the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Department, commended police on the arrests and the seizure of unlicensed firearms.
“We will continue with similar operations to keep our province safe,” she said.
