Glencoe housing complex booms to prove sceptics wrong…
Hopes are high that all the units will be sold by August.
With a million bricks to lay, the 72-unit housing development in Glencoe is set to boost the town, which for years has suffered from a lack of investment following the down scaling of railway activities.
Leaving many sceptics with red faces, foundations have already been laid for five of the units sold. A total of 14 ‘are in the mill’ of being registered said CP Momberg of Humana Development.
Hopes are high that all the units will be sold by August. The development will transform the entrance to Glencoe – adjacent to the old municipal swimming pool – and Mr Momberg said queries were coming from ‘around Northern KZN and beyond’.
Prices range from R650 000 to just over R1-million (an inclusive price) and there are 12 ‘off-plan’ options to choose from.
Nisaguard Construction of Newcastle has teamed up to oversee the building of the homes. With the high-experienced and dynamic Pieter van der Westhuizen heading up the work, together with the help of financial manager, Adee Bosman, residents can expect a ‘mushrooming development’.
While where possible, local sub-contractors will be used, Nisaguard’s team will be responsible for quality and on-site safety.
“We have been in the construction industry for over 25 years and have built thousands of houses and completed work for both the State and private clients. Of course, we want to support local suppliers in Dundee and Glencoe and I believe we have done all we can to do this – pricing is of course of paramount consideration,” Mr van der Westhuizen said.
Pleasing aesthetics
Nisaguard is registered by the National Home Builders Council and will only use local workers who are suitably qualified.
“Civil work will also be done by Nisaguard which will include the laying of roads and drainage systems. A two-metre modern-designed fencing system will secure the complex, making it attractive to buyers,” Mr Momberg added. He is pleased with the co-operation of the Endumeni Municipality, as additional electrical cabling – totalling 1,6km – and a transformer are needed to supply power to the complex. The total costing is over R3-million, which the developers themselves will have to pay.
Mr van der Westhuizen said the units will be of ‘top quality’ with chromadeck roofs, bathrooms, tiling from CTM and copper piping. Only ‘top of the range’ paint products will be used. While buyers do have the options, the construction style will ensure uniformity and pleasing aesthetics.
Mr Momberg said the ‘dream of developing this prime piece of land’ had been formulated for over two years. “Now that we have teamed up with Nisaguard we know we are going to produce something to make Glencoe proud.”
