A 29-year-old man has been convicted and sentenced for receiving stolen property.
This stems from an incident that occurred in May last year when Ladysmith Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officers stopped a vehicle during a routine operation. The Toyota Conquest had an expired licence disc.
This prompted the officers to check the vehicle out more meticulously and they established that it was a stolen vehicle.
The vehicle had been stolen in Sophiatown, Gauteng, a few days prior.
The two occupants were arrested and the vehicle was impounded for further investigation.
Constable Mazibuko from the Ladysmith SAPS Vehicle Identification Section (VIS) was tasked with the investigation.
During the investigation, it was established that Zikethele Raymond Radebe (29) had received the stolen vehicle.
On Thursday, May 5, he was convicted for receiving stolen property and was subsequently sentenced to three years’ imprisonment or a fine of R3000 in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court.
