Six people have been arrested and charged for the possession of drugs in the areas of Estcourt, Amangwe and Upper Tugela.
Altogether more than 330kg of dagga was recovered, which has an estimated street value of about R50 000. The recoveries were made this past weekend; five of the arrested men are aged between 21 and 37 and are from Estcourt. The other was found with about 8kg of dagga.

“While the other suspects had smaller quantities with them, they are all set to appear in the Estcourt Magistrate Court,” commented police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.
In a separate incident, two women one aged 39 and the other 48, were also arrested for possession of dagga. Approximately 20kg was seized from them in the Nkomokazini area during a stop and search operation, which the Amangwe police officers conducted. They appeared before the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, May 10 for the charges.

During the same operation, police officers seized abandoned bags of dagga weighing about 40kg.
