A resident recently complained about the lack of parking available at the municipal building.
She noticed an elderly woman who had to walk a long distance to reach the building, after she was told by car guards she was not allowed to use parking bays across from the municipal building on Murchison Street.
“I was shocked to see how far she had to walk. She is old and it is dangerous,” said the resident, who opted to remain anonymous.
She thought because the new municipal parking bays were not yet open to the public, it negatively affected the community, who utilised the municipal building.
Corporate Services Acting Strategic Executive Director, Dudu Molefe, said she was not aware there was no parking for the public, or that the public had raised concerns regarding this matter.
“There is parking is available for the public at the Scott Street entrance. Provision is made as well on Murchison Street where Fruit and Veg [City] is located. Additional public parking will only be available when the new municipal building is open for occupation at the end of May 2016,” she concluded.
