The 28th annual Evotel Memel to Newcastle Run/Walk will take place on September 24.

Established in 1994 with just 15 walkers, the event has grown to attract more than 1,000 athletes.

This year, the 51.2km race will serve as an official qualifier for the 100th Comrades Marathon.

Participants can choose from four categories: the 51.2km individual run or walk, or the team relay run or walk.

Each relay team consists of five members, with four members completing 10km each and the final member completing 11.2km.

Entries close on September 10

Entries close on September 10, 2026, and no late entries will be accepted.

Entry fees are as follows:

• Individual run: R350.00
• Individual walk: R350.00
• Team run (5 people): R1750.00
• Team Walk (5 people): R1750.00

Individual athletes and teams can register online via Webtickets or at any Pick n Pay. Companies wishing to enter teams can email info@champ.co.za for more information.

The first 100 athletes to register will receive a complimentary event T-shirt, sponsored by Allwear

Goodie bags will also be available, while all finishers will receive a medal

The overall male and female individual runners will each receive R1,500

Eighteen companies, together with refreshment sponsor Coca-Cola, will support athletes along the route

Organisers are encouraging athletes to take part in the event
