IF you’re fanatical about fishing and fancy your chances of catching a big one at the Vryheid Luremasters’ 2016 Bivane Bass Challenge, diarise June 4 and 5 and get your entries in.

Registration will take place on June 3 from 3pm until late and fishing times will be from 7am to 5pm on June 4 and 7am to 1pm on Sunday, followed by a prizegiving ceremony on Sunday at 2pm.

Due to the drought, water levels are low but, according to Bivane Dam’s website, which states that the dam level is currently at 35%, “The malicious rumours that people are spreading about Bivane Dam are not true. Bivane Dam is not closed, boats are still being launched. Nice Bass are being caught and released and visitors still water-ski and pull tubes on the dam. The dam is rising at a steady pace because of the rains and we are only releasing water for potable use and not for irrigation at this stage. Although the dam percentage is low, the water surface area is still 400ha and the deepest parts are still 46m deep, much bigger and deeper than other smaller dams even when they are full.”

The individual prize for the biggest fish is R25 000, so get your entries in. For further details regarding this popular angling event, contact Wayne on 082 878 8738, Loutjie on 081 405 9377, Miles on 082 852 2917 or Joleen on 060 506 3355.
