The UThukela Cluster police have been hard at work this past week as they made seven arrests related to drugs, unlicensed firearms and stolen goods.

The clampdown began in Estcourt when police arrested two suspects, aged 28 and 36, for the possession of suspected stolen property.The items included a toaster.

Police are currently investigating the possibility that the items may have been stolen from a property in Heritage Road. The suspects were spotted with the items on Tuesday, May 10 in Alfred Street at about 9.30am.

On Thursday, May 12 the suspects appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court. An arrest of a 27-year-old man followed at about 10am in the upper Tugela, Dukuza area.

An unlicensed 9mm pistol was seized. The suspect appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, May 12.
On the same day at about 2pm Amangwe police noticed a person in the Ngonyameni area, displaying suspicious behaviour.

A 24-year-old man was arrested after 0.09 grams of dagga was found in his possession. The street value of the dagga was estimated to be just under R100. The suspect was given notice to appear before the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, June 8.

That previous evening, a 29-year-old man was arrested by Bergville police in the Stulwane area for being in possession of an unlicensed AK47 and 30 rounds of ammunition.

Both the firearm and ammunition were seized and the suspect appeared before the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, May 12.

All seized firearms have sent for ballistic testing to determine whether they were used to commit any crimes within the country.
