Symbolic torch to highlight ‘achievements in local government’

A symbolic torch will arrive in Dundee next Tuesday as part of a province-wide tour to mark 16 years of local government and to 'ponder on achievements made since 2000'. It is 16 years since 'wall-to-wall local government was introduced to all people in KZN'. The flame will tour the 61 municipalities within the province and be used as an anchor to showcase achievements per district and will be led by District and local Mayors. The business sector, religious sector, traditional sector and other stakeholders will also form key pillars of the celebration programme. Umzinyathi District Municipality will receive the flame on Tuesday, May 31 from uThukela District Municipality. The flame will then travel to all four local municipalities in Umzinyathi from June 1 – 4. The main event for this District will be held on Wednesday, June 1, at the eMpumelelo Stadium in Sibongile. The arrival and exit of the celebration flame will be marked by community engagements and showcasing of government projects.
