The South African Police Service (SAPS) would like to distance itself from the flyers or messages that are circulating on social media, warning parents about child smugglers who are offering drug addicts money to help kidnap schoolchildren.
The police appeal to the community and parents not to panic and take extra precautions when dealing with false information of this nature.
Those addicted to drugs can be referred to rehabilitation centres to get help.
People are urged to refrain from circulating false messages aimed at causing alarm and citing police as the distributors.
Parents are urged to take care of their children and know their whereabouts at all times.
