Update: Poor workmanship results in power cuts?
It is believed that contractors working in the area ripped through cables, resulting in complete darkness in the affected areas

Numerous businessmen in Illing Road and Newcastle Road were up in arms due to a sudden power cut yesterday (Monday).
From around 12pm until 10.30pm last night, electricity was off in these areas, making trading impossible.
“6 hours lost in trade time, plus we had to go out in the middle of the night to sort out our compressors. How do we survive, especially over a month-end period? We expect compensation from the municipality for the loss of trade,” said one businessman in Illing Road.
According to another shop owner, numerous phone calls to the municipality left them baffled, as no one was able to indicate what time power would be restored, nor could they provide reasons for the power outage.
It is believed that contractors working in the area ripped through cables, resulting in complete darkness in the affected areas.
A team of dedicated Emnambithi electricians worked in the bitter cold to restore electricity. At around 10.30pm last night, power was back on.
