Municipal strike continues
The workers say that they will not stop until their issues are addressed.
AFTER waiting for a response from the AbaQulusi Municipality for seven working days to no avail, the municipal workers did take to the streets on May 27, as they had said at a previous meeting.
The disgruntled workers wanted to submit their memorandum to COGTA whom they believe has turned a blind eye on their problems.
The workers said that they desperately needed intervention from KZN MEC Nomusa Dube.
Among the issues raised was wasteful expenditure and mismanagement by the municipality, the example of an employment discrepancy, which allegedly took place last year was again raised.
The workers say that they will not stop until their issues are addressed.
Meetings have been set up between the municipal officials and workers before but these proved to be unfruitful, as officials had to take off in the middle of the meetings to attend to other “business”.
The Vryheid Herald was still awaiting response from AbaQulusi Municipality with regards to the matter at the time of going to print.
