Father pleads guilty to killing his two children
They were brutally stabbed and their throats were slit

Mkhonzeni Bernard Mdladla (33) appeared today (Thursday) in the Madadeni High Court. He pleaded guilty and was convicted on two counts of murder. He will be sentenced tomorrow.
It is alleged that during the night of Monday, May 30, the 33-year-old father approached the house where his former girlfriend and their two children lived. In fear, both the mother and grandmother fled the home, leaving behind the two children who were asleep.
He entered the home, situated in the Gudlintaba area of St Chad’s near Ladysmith, and found the children sleeping. He killed them by stabbing them in the neck and stomach before fleeing the scene.
It is unknown what happened in the house to trigger the man to cold-bloodedly slit the children’s throats and rip open their stomachs.
According to the mother of the children, Nobuhle Mbele, she heard dogs barking and told her younger brother to shut the door. As he was about to, the mother’s ex-boyfriend came inside and started acting violently towards her.
“He asked, ‘Where is Sithandiwe?’” recalls the mother. She then ran out of the house to seek help from neighbours, leaving her sleeping children in the house. When the mother returned from hiding, she found Bongukwenza Mlungiseni Mdladla (4) and Thandiwe Lusanda Madladla (6) dead.
“When I got back, I found my innocent children in a pool of blood, dead. My mother came when she heard me screaming. I really don’t know what his motive was and why he did this to my angels.”
The family is devastated by this tragedy and hope that one day they will find answers to give them some peace.
Mdladla will appear again in court tomorrow for sentencing.
