The last fixture on the calendar of the Natal Fresh Water Angling Associations season was the knock out final which was fished between Itec Free Spool and Glencoe Angling clubs at Chelmsford dam.
Both teams were eager to finish the season on a high. Glencoe were seeking their first title while Itec Free Spool were looking to capture their maiden double having secured the league title during round five of the season. During the first round of the knockout competition Glencoe emerged victors by 22 points to 11 against the more fancied Docrats angling club. A bye in the second round ensured them a direct route to the final. Itec Free Spool eliminated both Dannhauser and Chelmsford angling clubs to secure their place in the final.
The knock out final was fished at Richgate Park. The bites were few and far between, however Itec Free Spool proved too strong for Glencoe winning the contest by 31 points to 11. The sportsmanship and camaraderie displayed by both clubs was commended by the officials. Itec Free Spool were congratulated on winning both the league and knock out titles in the same year. Docrats and Chelmsford finished second and third on the league table respectively.
The heaviest scaled fish of the season was a carp of 4.190 kg caught by Ronnie Rampersadh during league six which was held at Sanford Islands. The heaviest barbel for the season weighed in at 3.925 kg and was caught at Richgate Park by Neil Boltman. The president of the NFWAA thanked all clubs for their participation and congratulated the successful clubs and anglers. He also thanked sponsors for their support; they include Dundee Toyota, J & S Freight Haul, Docrats Hardware, The Fish & Chips Company, Complete Tech and Sunny’s Driving School (in memory of the late Sunny Singh).
The NFWAA would also like to congratulate Docrats Angling club for hosting a very successful open competition. Anglers can rest assured that the NFWAA and its affiliates will host at least 2 more such competitions in the new season. The annual general meeting of the NFWAA will take place on the 16 July 2016 at 52 Montague Street, Newcastle. Please contact the following persons for any enquiries or information: L.
