Political parties pledge
All representatives present at the ceremony were requested to sign a pledge agreeing to be on their best behaviour and a pledge for free and fair elections
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa hosted various political parties at the Civic Hall today (Wednesday) for a code of conduct ceremony, as we approach the local government elections on August 3.
The purpose of the ceremony was for representatives of the various political parties to sign a pledge. All representatives present at the ceremony, on behalf of their party and its members, were requested to sign a pledge agreeing to be on their best behaviour and a pledge for free and fair elections.
After all the presentations were finished, each party was given a chance to market itself, where they spoke of how they will be of service to the community.
The issues of water shortages and service delivery were the main aspects under discussion.
IEC spokesperson Sipho Khumalo said that to ensure there are no disputes, a vote education system will be granted to all parties whereby they will educate members on how to treat themselves and others to ensure fair elections.
Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) were also present, as they will be out in full force to keep the peace if necessary and deal with any instances of violence that may occur on election day.
