KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC condemns murder of ward candidate

NEWCASTLE – KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC, Doctor Sibongiseni Dhlomo has condemned the brutal murder of ANC’s Ward 6 candidate, Thembi Mbongo.

Mbongo was shot and killed in front of her family on Satuday night, allegedly by two men who came to her home and requested to speak with her.

MEC Dhlomo visited the family of the deceased on Monday, July 4, to express his condolences.

He was met by a large number of ANC supporters, critising the violent manner in which she was killed.

“I have worked here and served the people of the Amajuba District for many years. Even during the years of political turbulence, this area was relatively peaceful, and no people were forced to flee because of political violence,” said MEC Dhlomo during his visit.

He called on authorities to leave no stone unturned in hunting the perpetrators down, so they could be held accountable for their actions.

Dhlomo further said the murder of Mbongo was an embarrassment, even for the culprits.

“Once the perpetrators are arrested and convicted, and they are asked in prison what crime they were convicted for, they will be embarrassed to have to tell other inmates they killed a woman.”

Speculations are rife that the murder was politically motivated, and with the impending local Government Elections, MEC Dhlomo called on the public to exercise political tolerance.

“Accept all elected candidates, as they were chosen by their respective political parties.”
