Would- be hitmen nabbed by SAPS.

THE LOCAL taxi war seems to be far from over and the arrest of five highly dangerous hitmen that were headed to Vryheid last week is proof.
The Vryheid SAPS received a tip-off from the Durban Crime Intelligence Unit regarding five men who were headed to town on Thursday last week in a white Hyundai Elantra.
The five had allegedly been paid to head down to Vryheid to beat-up (and possibly kill) a taxi owner. The five men were caught and arrested near the Mondlo turn-off, and although no weapons were found with them, it is highly suspected that these were being transported in a separate vehicle. The Durban police requested that the local SAPS detain the five while they looked up criminal records.
It was later discovered that the five had been sought after by Durban’s Murder and Robbery Unit for a number of major cases and they were then transferred back to Durban to answer for their crimes, the next day.
Although it has not yet been confirmed, it is alleged that the Durban cases may be connected to the ongoing issues within the Vryheid Taxi Owners Association, following the murder of late chairman, Timothy Dlamini, and the torching of Jabu Khumalo’s taxis earlier this year.
Investigations on both those cases are still underway and the police have still made no arrests.
