Narrow escape for ZDM security guard

ZULULAND District Municipal Mayor, Mpiyakhe Hlatshwayo’s security guard narrowly escaped with minor injuries when the vehicle he was driving was forced off the road.
The incident took place on Tuesday morning as the security guard was travelling along Church Street, on his way to collect Hlatshwayo, who was scheduled to attend an event in Nongoma.

According to the driver of the ZDM vehicle, a black BMW in oncoming traffic suddenly veered into his lane, hurtling towards him at high speed.

In an effort to avoid an impending collision with the BMW, he was forced to swerve off the road, subsequently overturning his vehicle, taking down two power lines in the process and leaving a trail of debris approximately 80m long. The BMW did not stop and was long gone by the time anyone could react.
The incident played out near the base of KwaZulu Private Ambulance Services and their crew managed to respond before the dust had even settled.

“Our immediate concern at the scene was the safety of passers-by as well as the patient, due to the live electrical wires being exposed by the crash,” stated emergency medical rescue technician for KwaZulu Private Ambulance,

Frikkie Bekker.
The patient was treated for minor head injuries and transported to Vryheid Hospital for further evaluation.
Hlatshwayo urges the driver of the black BMW in question to come forward and take accountability for their actions.
