‘We don’t want jets, we want jobs’

REPRESENTATIVES of the Democratic Alliance gathered at Lancaster Lodge last Thursday to discuss the agenda of the opposition party in AbaQulusi.

Mr Sibusiso Nkosi welcomed guests and community members who attended the meeting, adding that the party was hopeful in the retaining of certain wards in the AbaQulusi region despite rezoning in areas where the DA previously had a stronghold.

MP Thomas Hadebe, thanked well known councillor, Harry Heyns, for his hard work, reflecting on the 16 years of dedication to the party and his interest in the upliftment of the country amid the concerns of a “dilapidated infrastructure” in this region and beyond, in light of Heyns’ imminent retirement from the political arena.
Hadebe expressed his faith in the candidates who will be representing the DA in the upcoming municipal elections, saying, “I have complete confidence that Alta and Magda will fly the DA flag high in Vryheid.”

MP for the DA, Dianne Kohler-Barnard, who came under fire last year for an alleged social media faux pas, was one of the guest speakers for the evening, addressing those present on the political growth and predicted advancements of the party at a nationwide level and discussing the success rate in constituencies governed by the Democratic Alliance.

“We are not here with political promises,” declared DA MP and guest speaker, Dean McPherson. “We are here with political action.”

McPherson raised several pertinent issues, referring to the recent approval and subsequent purchase of the R4billion presidential jet with the rallying cry, “We don’t want jets, we want jobs!”
McPherson furthermore challenged the opposition’s call to “…vote for a better yesterday…” with the response, “We don’t want a better yesterday, we want a better tomorrow.”
