High jump record falls at Egerton athletics meeting

The previous record was 1.54m and Grade 7 boy Aphiwe Sibisi managed to clear an impressive 1.59m

Egerton Primary School held their inter-house athletics meeting at the Ladysmith High School (LHS) sports grounds.

Three houses – namely Corrigal, Macaulay and Sinclair – did battle for top honours in field and track events.

One of the Grade 7 boys, Aphiwe Sibisi, broke the record for high jump which was set in 2014. The previous record was 1.54m and Aphiwe managed to clear an impressive 1.59m.

The day ended off with the 100-metre relay, which every age group and both genders took part in.

It was an uncharacteristically hot day for this time of year, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the athletes and spectators who enthusiastically cheered them on from the sidelines. Well done, everyone!
