The IFP believes that corruption is the most crucial aspect of the local government elections.
Party spokesman, S. Richard Mbatha, told the Courier that during the IFP’s ‘massive campaigns’ throughout the municipal area, ordinary voters had complained bitterly about corruption within the municipality, the selling of RDP houses, lack of jobs and even the illegal selling of water during the current drought.
“When the IFP led the municipality, the rate increase was 6%, now we are sitting with an 8% increase thanks to the ANC. Previously the IFP built houses in Craigside and developed infrastructure in Forestdale. Today those in power have failed to build houses in these areas.
“An infrastructure and business plan for all RDP houses was done by Callie Carelse who is the IFP candidate in ward 7.” Mr Mbatha said: “The IFP understands that local government is more than providing water, electricity and sanitation.
“These are just the basics that must be done. Local government must create an enabling environment for growth and development.
“The IFP has candidates who will be responsive to your needs and will respect you. Councillors must be competent and be able to perform with excellence.” Mr Mbatha added that since 2011 the ‘ANC had led Endumeni into chaos and destruction with their alliance with the NFP.’
“Our town suffers from high unemployment, high crime and poor service delivery. The roads in our town are terrible and our council needs to hire a town planner to address such issues.” He also took a swipe at the ANC for hiring a helicopter, bearing the ANC colours, that flew over last week’s Dundee July horse riding event.
“People were not happy about this as it disturbed the event which was attended by people from all communities.”
