GREED seems to be tightening its grip around certain community members at water collection points, this is according to the DA’s Phumlani Thabede.
“Some people tend to not think for others when collecting water, fetching about 5/6 25-litre containers daily. Yes we all need water, and yes, some families are larger than others but we need to do all we can to ensure that we make the little we have go a long way,” said Phumlani.
He also said that many fights were breaking out at the water tanks as there were problems of people holding queues for their friends and people who leave containers at the tanks overnight so that they can arrive the next day to claim first position.
Phumlani, who looks after most of the tanks in Bhekuzulu and ensures that things are running smoothly, said that community members should refrain from letting this water crisis turn them into savages.
“As a community, we should all be working together to ensure that we get through this difficult time without ripping each other to shreds,” he said.
In conclusion, Phumlani would like to remind community members that washing cars at collection points is not allowed, and that everyone should remember to always let elderly people go first as this is a courteous thing to do.
