Executive Committee has its last say
The Executive Committee held a confirmation meeting to close off affairs before the Municipal Elections.
Tuesday saw an unfortunate final meeting of the Executive Committee.
Hosted at the Council Chambers, for the sole purpose of confirming minutes for the incoming Exco, the meeting was marked by the absence of numerous councillors. In fact, it took over an hour for a quorum to be reached.
The meeting itself was void of deliberation, with the minutes of July 13 (final Exco) and July 26 (special meeting) approved amicably. And like that, it was over.
The current Exco will retain its positions until the new administration is confirmed and gazetted, likely on August 10. A final local council meeting might still be held before then.
Resolved
– The matter of sending officials to attend the Newcastle Alliance Conference in Newcastle, Ontario, Canada was referred to the new council for consideration.
– It was noted that it would be advantageous for the Newcastle Community Tourism Organisation to have a designated stand at the 2017 Tourism Indaba in Durban, and the cost of the stand be budgeted for.
– A report regarding the proposed acquisition of four portions of the farm Stafford (Soul City) for low income housing was previously submitted. This report was referred back, pending the comments of Budget and Treasury.
Recommended
– It was recommended the 2015/2016 Newcastle Municipality Information Technology (IT) Security Policy be approved, and be noted the policy would be reviewed annually.
– The Draft Process Plan for 2017/2018 was recommended for approval by council, in order to give guidance to the preparation of the Integrated Development Plan, Performance Management System and the Budget. This plan would be submitted to the MEC of KwaZulu-Natal CoGTA (Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs) for assessment, and advertised for public comment and scrutiny.
