Does AbaQulusi face a hung council?

HOPES that an outright win for one political party or another will bring about stability in AbaQulusi council have been dashed.

HOPES that an outright win for one political party or another will bring about stability in AbaQulusi council have been dashed.

The ANC has claimed 11 of the 22 wards in AbaQulusi and have won 10 proportional representation (PR) seats. This means that ANC members will occupy a total of 21 of the 42 seats on the council, exactly half.

The IFP has claimed nine wards and have also won 10 PR seats, occupying a total of 19 seats on the council.

The DA has won two wards and one PR seat, occupying a total of three seats on the council.

New kids on the block, the EFF, will be lending their voice to the council having managed to secure one PR seat.
A possible coalition between the IFP, DA and the EFF could lead to a hung council, however, it is yet to be seen which parties will decide to work together.
