The excitement was tangible at Sam-Lyn Edu Centre on Saturday morning as children and parents, gogo’s, siblings and relatives experienced education at the centre.
The idea behind this initiative was for the children’s parents to experience first-hand what their children do at the centre in the afternoons, while upgrading their English skills, both written and communicative.
After being given tea and cake, the parents joined their children in working at the computer, reading, doing puzzles, playing a variety of games and listening to stories. There was great excitement as puzzles were completed and proud moments as gogos watched their grandchildren working on the computers, amazed as well at the way they communicated in English.

As reading is one of the most important tools in learning a language, special time was set aside for the children to read with their parents. It was wonderful to watch as they shared their love of reading, selecting books from the centre library.
What started off as an hour and a half, ended up almost double the length of time for some who either arrived early or were reticent to go home! There were many requests for this to be a regular occurrence…who knows what may develop?
