Residents still suffering after 2012 hailstorm

"Service delivery is a total myth, there is no such thing, otherwise our houses would have been fixed a long time ago"

It’s been almost 4 years now since the devastating December 2012 hailstorm in which hundreds of houses were badly damaged, and some people are still suffering.

“About 300 houses in Steadville have not been fixed, after the municipality promised the people that repairs would be carried out at some stage,” said Mr Nkomonde.

Steadville resident Mr Nkomonde called the Ladysmith Gazette to plead for help, as he says his house is still in a terrible condition as a result of the 2012 storm.

“My house is in a bad state! It’s going for the 4th year since the hailstorm occurred and nobody seems to be interested in helping us. Service delivery is a total myth, there is no such thing, otherwise our houses would have been fixed a long time ago,” says an outraged Mr Nkomonde.

On behalf of all the residents with destroyed homes, he issues a plea to the municipality to assess the houses and come up with a way forward.

“Human beings cannot live in these conditions. Something must be done about it as soon as possible,” laments Mr Nkomonde.
