WESSA eco quiz
Yet another year has passed since the last WESSA quiz. All participants were excited and all geared up for the August 5 WESSA quiz which took place at the Collins Hall at the University of KwaZulu Natal, Pietermaritzburg. Teams A and B were quite challenged by the quiz master but succeeded to answer some of the questions. Although the quiz itself was brain wrecking, the teams from Sarel enjoyed the evening and learnt quite a bit about Mother Nature. The highlight of the trip was the activities hosted by the Umgeni River Valley Reserve.
This included abseiling, a wonderful water study and an obstacle course. The learners were exhausted but were once again challenged by mother nature herself. They had a fabulous time and now look back and await to participate next year. Mrs Ramdutt would like to thank the principal, Mr Van Staden, for his generosity and kindness shown towards our teams, and Wendy Dunn, the hospitality manager from Umgeni River Valley and of course Mondi Co for sponsoring the teams.
Sarel Cilliers Library donates to SPCA
Mrs Pretorius from the library at Sarel Cilliers had a collection drive for Mandela Day. The moneys collected were donated to the SPCA. We would like to thank her for the initiative and all the learners who contributed.

Netball trails
On August 7-13, Thandokuhle Mazibuko went to Durban to the KZN championships to represent KZN A1. They did really well and won four matches and lost three. There where teams from all the other provinces.
Sarel cricketers take on DHS and compete in Pongola
Sarel Cilliers played cricket against Dundee High on Thursday, August 11 and after being sent in to bowl first they did themselves proud with their first game for the season. The game did not go their way, but the boys played well. Sarel Cilliers wishes to thank Dundee High School for their excellent sportsmanship both on and off the field!
On August 12, a combination of juniors and seniors departed on tour to Pongola to take part in an annual festival. Teams participating were from Grantleigh Private Schools, Felixton College, Vryheid High School, etc. The boys struggled against stronger opponents in the first match, but showed true character and grit, pushing through the rest of their matches getting better with every single ball that was bowled.
